Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is committed to instill Bhakti among devotees who visit many Temples where they must wait for hours. Instead of standing idle and talking about unnecessary things, GHHF decided to provide Aditya Hridayam pamphlet for them to chant as they wait for their turn to have darshan of Lord Narasimha.
Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple built a beautiful Surya Narayana Image and for reasons unknown, it was not properly taken care of. GHHF volunteers cleaned the area around the Temple and planted a few shrubs and flower beds. Over a period, people started to come to seek the blessings of Surya Narayana. Hundreds of people come and have darshan. As the people come to have darshan of Surya Deva, GHHF is distributing Aditya Hridayam pamphlet to chant. Many people are participating in this effort by sitting in front of the Deity and chanting Aditya Hridayam.
GHHF decided to have the devotees chant Aditya Hridayam because of its importance in content and benefits one accrues. This hymn is one of the great hymns on Surya Bhagavan. When Lord Rama was bewildered while battling Ravana, sage Agasthya taught him this potent mantra. Hearing all this, Sri Rama gains energy and new hope of defeating Ravana. He faces Ravana again after forming his war strategies and reviving his archery skills. After invocation by Sri Rama, Sri Surya appears to Sri Rama and blesses him to attain victory over Ravana – and thus it happened very soon after. The benefits of rays of sunlight are well-known for healing several diseases – including those related to eyes and skin. Immunity is at rock-bottom these days – due to high pollution, as well as multi-specialty approaches to health which do lead to unforeseen side-effects. Lord Surya as “God of Good Health” (in Hindu religion) bestows us immunity and digestive fire energy to withstand or prevent many diseases.
Aditya Hridaya benefits include protection during fear, victory in battles, destruction of enemies, ability to overcome mental depression and cure diseases.
Aditya Hridaya, a hymn extolling the Sun or Surya, was recited to Lord Rama on the battlefield before his battle with Ravana by the renowned sage Agastya. This famous hymn begins while Lord Rama is feeling tired while getting ready to fight. The Sun God, the celebrated king of all wins, is the subject of the enigmatic hymn. Surya is considered the ultimate source of energy, both physically and spiritually. Worshipping Surya is seen as a way to attain physical, mental and spiritual well-being, and to attain spiritual enlightenment. In Hinduism, the sun is also considered to be the deity who dispels ignorance and illuminates the path to righteousness.
Why chant Aditya Hridayam?
It is believed to enhance spiritual awareness and deepen one’s connection with the higher realms; bestow physical well-being and promote overall health; can help overcome challenges and hurdles on the path to success; calm the mind and dispel negative thoughts, promoting a state of inner peace and tranquility; invoke his blessings and protection against negative influences, evil forces, and malefic planetary influences; help overcome fear, anxiety, and stress, promoting emotional well-being; inspire the practitioner to cultivate these positive qualities, leading to personal growth and ethical conduct.
