Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of the great freedom fighters of India and played a vital role in uniting our country. We fondly call him "Bharata Ekta Murthy" "Despitha". Patel became a popular leader due to his strong decision-making power, specific goals and actions taken for the welfare of the people.
childhood life
Vallabhbhai Patel was born in a small village in the state of Gujarat. From childhood he was good and studied hard. Patel went to England and studied law there and became a lawyer.
Contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in unification of India
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's contribution to the unification of India in the years after independence from British rule is untold. After India's independence in 1947, there were 562 princely states that were not directly under British control. Sardar Patel was entrusted with the challenge of integrating these princely states into the newly formed Indian Union. Through a combination of diplomacy, persuasion and force he succeeded in bringing these states under the umbrella of the Government of India.
Hyderabad, Junagadh, and Kashmir issues
* Hyderabad: The Nizam ruler initially wanted independence, but later negotiated with Pakistan and brutally persecuted Hindus. With this, Patel added Hyderabad to India through "Police Action".
* Junagadh: The Junagadh state decided to join Pakistan, but the people wanted to stay in India. Junagadh was integrated into India by Patel's actions.
* Kashmir: The state of Kashmir was also annexed to India on Patel's initiative when Pakistan wanted to occupy it.
He was instrumental in setting up the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), which became the backbone of India's civil services. He himself called it the iron frame of India. Promoting National Integration: He promoted the idea of India as one nation and emphasized that the nation should stand together despite its diversity. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's immense contributions earned him the title "Iron Man of India". To recognize his role in national unity, a tall statue of Sardar Patel known as the "Statue of Unity" was erected in Kevadia, Gujarat.

* Iron Man of India: Earned the title "Iron Man of India" for his unparalleled role in promoting the unity and integrity of India.
* Bharat Ratna: In 1991, he was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award.
* National Unity Day: In 2014, the Government of India launched Rashtriya Ekta Divas or National Unity Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
* Statue of Unity: A statue of Sardar Patel was unveiled on October 31, 2018, at Kevadia, Gujarat on the occasion of his 143rd birth anniversary. This statue is known as the Statue of Unity and is the tallest statue in the world.
* Sardar Sarovar Dam: The Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat, built on the Narmada River, is named in his honor.
* Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy: These prestigious police officer training institute located in Hyderabad is named after Sardar Patel.
Sardar Patel's services to India will never be forgotten. His life teaches us a great lesson about self-confidence, determination and patriotism. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's leadership, diplomacy and tough decisions made India a united nation. Without his leadership, India would have been divided into smaller states.
