Mumtaz Hotel is being built at the footsteps of Seven Hills of Lord Venkateswara in the sacred city of Tirupati. This illegal construction was opposed by B. R Naidu, Chairman of TTD; TTD Trust Board, TUDA, Perur Panchayat, Naveen Kumar Reddy, BJP leader, Global Hindu Heritage Foundation, Hindu Sanatana Dharma Parirakshana Samithi, many Swamijis, and many other Hindu organizations. The area where the hotel is located is considered “Tirumala Divya Kshetram.” Hindus feel that the sanctity of TTD will be compromised, spirituality will be hampered, and Hindu sentiments will be crushed, if the hotel is built so near to the Hill. Every Hindu is looking for an answer as to why it should be built so close to Seven Hills. Further, the 20-acre land was forcefully taken from the land given to Devlok.
The seven-star hotels' mission, operation, maintenance, and catering to their clients is contrary to religious and spiritual sentiments. It is contrary to G.O. No 746 which gives the Executive Officer of TTD extraordinary powers to maintain the sanctity of TTD. It gives the Executive Officer the authority to “take action to prevent begging, consumption of intoxicating liquor, drugs or cigarettes, meat or meat products. Slaughter of animals or birds, gaming, and gambling are expressly prohibited under this Act. All these provisions are intended to ensure that the entire Tirumala Hills area continues to be the spiritual sanctuary that it has been all through” the years.
Many Hindus were utterly shocked, surprised, and stunned at his silence for three months despite all the opposition. Many Hindus had high hopes for Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as he promised to clean up Tirupati. He stated, “I will begin cleanup of the mess created by Jagan from Tirupati … first priority is to bring back the glory of Tirupati and said Only the sound that should be heard in Tirupati is OM NAMO VENKATESHAYA.”
He also said, “They have turned this place to worst, they have made it a center for marijuana, liquor and non-veg … basic cleanliness and hygiene are lacking in Tirumala and in the preparation of prasadams. “The TTD needs to be cleansed, and we will do it,”
He had a golden opportunity to keep the TTD a sacred place instead of making it into a sin city.
Andhra Jyoti Article
Andhra Jyoti Telugu newspaper reports that all the hurdles to constructing a seven-star luxury resort hotel were removed. The hurdles faced by the first seven-star luxury hotel planned to be built in Rayalaseema for the last three years were removed with Chandrababu’s initiative. All the outstanding pending permissions at Tirupati Urban Development Authority were resolved.
Mumtaz hotels belonging to Oberoi groups began the initiative to construct in 2021. To build this hotel they acquired 20 acres from Perur Panchayat for a 66-year lease as per the G.O No 12 issued on July 4, 2022. Although the then Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy performed a groundbreaking ceremony on July 9, 2023, the work did not start. Many Hindu organization along with BJP expressed their concerns over the construction of the luxury hotel. They feel that the culture, traditions, and customs will be adversely affected. They feel they serve meat, alcohol, spa massage centers and similar undesirables will spoil the sacredness of the area. This discussion of the matter went viral on social media. It was brought to the attention of Chandrababu Naidu.
In the meanwhile, Oberoi Group changed the name of Mumtaz Hotel to Trident Group. It is believed that permission was given since the name was changed. Since it will be operated as a resort, Chandrababu Naidu directed all the district officials to cooperate. Because of his direction, TUDA has given pertinent permission to continue the construction by the Oberoi group.
Every Hindu believed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is a changed person since the elections. He is more religious and more likely to work toward protecting Sanatana Dharma. He even acknowledged that Balaji gave him a second life. With all the troubles Jagan Mohan Reddy created for him and put him in jail for 43 days, he may have learned something about life. Hindus overwhelmingly voted him to be the Chief Minister.
The Hindus who elected him are nothing for Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu when it comes to the power of Mega companies such as the Oberoi group. He did not make one statement as to the sentiments of Hindus and why they have protested. He did not justify why he directed TUDA to issue permissions to build the Trident Hotel. Why only that land was selected so close to the seven Hills? Why can’t it be moved to another location? In his view Jagan Mohan Reddy sinister plan is more important than the views of Hindus. In his view, probably they do not exist. They can be ignored. Their Temples can be destroyed. Their Temples can be made sacrilegious.
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation requests Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to hold a news conference and explain his reasons for granting the approval of Trident Hotel at the footsteps of Seven Hills and why he chose to fulfill Jagan Mohan Reddy’s dream project and hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
