"The distinction between liberated, aspirant and bound subsists only so long as this Elixir of Experience is unknown to one. The enjoyer and the enjoyed, the seer and the seen, are merged in the non-dual, which is indivisible. The devotee has become God, the Goal has become God, the Goal has become the path; this indeed is solitude in the universe.” Sant Jnaneshwar
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is very happy to inform that Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Temple authorities in Kalyandurg requested our GHHF Bhajan Groups to lead the procession by singing divine songs. The Temple was celebrating the annual Lakshminarayan Jayanti. Our Bhajan group consists of several activists who are promoting Bhajans in various villages and Temples.
The Utsav Murthi of Sri Lakshminarayana was taken all around Kalyandurg village going through various streets singing Bhajans. It is customary to take the Murthy in a procession to celebrate the annual function. Soulful singing with passion and devotion creates spirituality among people who also join in singing songs in praise of Deities.
Bhajan means “to serve, honor, revere, love, and adore.” Generally speaking, prayers, psalms, anthems, hymns, and singing in praise of Gods and Goddesses are all bhajans. Bhajan also refers to a spiritual practice, originating in Vedic times (Sama Veda) in India and now used all over the world, in which names of God are chanted by a lead singer and repeated by the congregation.
In Bhagavatam, it is stated:
kalerdoshanidhe rajannasti hyeko mahan gunah
kirtanad eva krishnasya muktasangah param vrajet (Shreemad Bhagavatam 12.3.51)

It means that Kaliyuga, the present era, is an ocean of faults – people have disturbed minds, unsound health, they live in polluted environment, and face disturbing situations. However, there is one very great virtue in Kaliyuga. By lovingly chanting the melodious kirtans of the Lord, one can easily get liberated from material bondage.
Devotional singing, known as bhajans or kirtan, can help to quiet the mind so that the heart can open to the divine, allowing us to taste the blissful reality that is our true nature. It is a participatory spiritual practice in which everyone is encouraged to sing and express their inner joy. Devotion, not musical ability, is the most important aspect of kirtan. To gain concentration in this age of materialism, bhajan is easier than meditation. By loud singing, other distracting sounds will be overcome, and concentration will be achieved. Bhajan, concentration, and meditation, this is the progression. Bhajan is important for the devotee because it is intimate and free in expression.
Bhajans create positive modifications (vrttis) in your mental complex that result in samskaras that would further impel you towards the divine instead of something else. It inches you closer to God.
Your actions affect your thoughts which further influences your actions. God inclining actions will produce God inclining thoughts which would then create a positive cycle.
Bhajan singing purifies the environment. The first step is to purify one’s own heart. Transform yourself before you set out to transform others. The role of bhajans in purifying the atmosphere should be recognized. In this context, the role of community singing should be understood. Singing bhajans in your home, you may indulge in your fancies and derive whatever joy you get there from. Sankeerthan (community singing) calls for whole-hearted, soul-full singing, which moves the hearts of the listeners. Bhajans should not be a routine ritual. You must put your heart and soul into the singing.
