Hyderabad, July 17: People in Serlingampally on Tuesday protested the demolition of four ancient temples to construct a golf course in Nanakramguda. Hundreds of devotees and residents expressed strong resentment over the destruction of the religious structures. According to them, three temples were badly damaged ten days ago and another construction wasrazed on Monday despite stiff resistance from the devotees.

They alleged that officials of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) had not responded to their request that the temples be protected while the golf course was constructed. The AP temples protection committee convenor N.V.V.S. Prabhakar threatened that devotees would go on a kar seva from Monday if officials do not take steps to restore the temples so Bonalu functions could be organised there. "The temples of Hanuman, Shiva and Mahankali in the Nanakramguda area are also listed for demolition. It is unfortunate that government is giving top priority to corporates while disrespecting the sentiments of Hindus," he said.

He said that the committee will chalk out an action plan for protecting temples where corporates are encroaching on temple property with the support of officials in the revenue and endowments departments.
