Global Hindu Heritage Foundation teaches about morals and ethics to children. We realized that children seem to understand morals and concepts better when we relate those to animals and their lives. The Owl, Cheetah and The Lion full story is one such short story that teaches a very important value that we must abide by throughout our lives. Teaching our children these values at a young age will help them practice and inculcate them in the long run. It will help build strong and independent minds driven toward excellence and success. Read further the story of Lion, Cheetah and Owl.

There are three Characters in the story:
Lion – King of the jungle, thinks he is very strong.
Cheetah – A fast running cheetah, it also thinks it is the best.
Owl – A wise owl tries to settle a fight between a lion and a leopard.
(Scene: In the middle of a forest. A lion proudly roams around observing its surroundings.)
Lion (proudly): I am the king of this jungle. There is no one stronger than me. They tremble at the sight of me in this forest.
(Meanwhile Cheetah reaches there.)
Cheetah (proudly): Ha ha! Are you a lion You may be strong, but I hunt with my speed without thinking. No animal can match my speed!
Lion (with his pride): What is your speed, chiru? There must be strength, strength. Without strength, speed is useless.
Cheetah (still proud): No need for strength, Lion. If I have speed, I can't be caught by anyone. No one can catch me!  (Both get into an argument.)
(Scene: An owl sits by the side of a forest and observes an argument between a lion and a leopard.)
Owl (to lion and cheetah): Hey lion, cheetah! There is nothing to argue about. You are both great. But let's put a test to find out who is really the greatest among you. You both go hunting at the same time. Whoever catches the beast wins first.
Lion (proudly): Well, I'll catch the beast right away.
Cheetah (proudly): Enough! I'll get to it sooner!
Owl: Okay. Go and try your best.
(Scene: A lion and a cheetah set out for hunting at the same time. The cheetah rushes ahead with its speed and immediately catches the nearest wild boar.)
Cheetah (triumphantly): Look! I already caught this wild boar with my speed.
(The lion goes after it but sees the leopard with the wild boar.)
Then the wild boar injures the leopard and tries to escape. Immediately the lion goes and kills the wild boar with his strength.
(The owl arrives.)
Owl (to Cheetah): Cheetah, you have speed, that's right. But the lion works with strength as well as intelligence. Also, the lion has no speed. Everyone's uniqueness is their strength. Don't flaunt your uniqueness with others. Focus on your potential.
To the words of the lion and the cheetah, the owl says, "You are right, my friend."
Owl: That's why, friends, pride is not worth it. Everyone is great in their own capacity. You two, the lion and the leopard, must be irreconcilable friends.
